Rt Hon Winston Peters, Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, has become Acting Prime Minister for a period of six weeks while the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern, is on maternity leave.
Mr Peters will take on all Prime Ministerial duties in her absence, carrying out the PM’s powers and functions and managing the day-to-day business of government.
The arrangements in place for this period were outlined by the Prime Minister in a letter to Mr Peters. This letter is available on the Beehive website.
Mr Peters has the full confidence of the Prime Minister in the management of the coalition government over this period. He is looking forward to carrying out the functions of her office and supporting her during this special time.
