Budget 2019 revealed a sizeable boost of $1.1 billion in funding for Oranga Tamariki – Ministry for Children.
New Zealand First MP and Minister for Children Hon Tracey Martin says all New Zealanders want to see children and young people grow up in a safe environment.
Breaking the generational cycle of child harm requires intervention at the earliest possible point and better support for children in care so they can go on and live the lives they deserve.
This funding makes sure that children in care have access to the right services at the right time. This allocation will also go towards more intensive and early intervention services to prevent children from having to enter the care of the state. We want children to be with their families, but we also want them to be safe.
One of the Coalition Government’s priorities is making New Zealand the best place in the world to be a child. Minister Martin’s work and the Coalition Government’s prioritisation of resources will aims to child poverty and improve child wellbeing.
