Hon Tracey Martin, Minister for Children
The Minister for Children Tracey Martin has been involved in a large scale investment in preventing and responding to family violence and sexual violence. The $320 million package sits across eight portfolios and includes funding for a broad range of support services.
“When a child is in a house where family violence takes place they are also a victim of that violence,” says Minister Martin. “As joint Minister of this initiative and the Minister for Children I am pleased to see this prevention work is finally funded.”
The package announced also includes an increase in funding for Oranga Tamariki. That means it allows for both an increase of funding for service provision and for the design and development of age-appropriate sexual harm crisis support services for children and young people.
Every year almost 300,000 children are affected by family and sexual violence. New Zealand First is proud of the work of Minister Martin to break this cycle and make genuine change for children.
