Work Visa Scammer Should Be Deported
The former Philippines national responsible for a work visa scam involving more than 1000 Filipino dairy workers should have been deported, not merely sentenced to home detention and community work, says New Zealand First Leader and Member of Parliament for Northland Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“Our immigration laws should be taken seriously, but under National scammers are getting away with few, if any, consequences.
“This case highlights the appalling mismanagement of our visa application process by National, which has allowed record numbers of immigrants into New Zealand year after year, with 71,000 net in 2016 alone.
“New Zealand’s immigration laws must be strengthened to prevent instances like this from occurring again and a strong message should be sent to anyone who tries to break them,” says Mr Peters.
