Northland Still Missing Out On Policing
After eight years of cuts to police resources and numbers, and propaganda that crime was falling, today’s police announcement exposes National’s deceit on the issue of law and order.
We needed these promised recruits not some time in the future but in the last eight years,” says New Zealand First Leader and Northland MP Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“Instead, Police Ministers have given us spin, a catch-and-release policy and less than 4 per cent burglary resolution rate.
“Sixty-six additional police for Northland, when you take out their holidays and off-work hours, provides an illusion of 24 hours cover when it does not exist.
“These resources are way short of the proper response to alarming criminal activity, a drug pandemic and renegade youth.
“Up till now only Whangarei offered 24/7 policing in the Northland Police District.
“So what has happened to Waipu, Hikurangi, Maungatoroto, Ruakaka, Onerahi, Rawene, Kohukohu, Mangonui, Kawakawa and Russell? They miss out.
“And so will Kaikohe and Wellsford.
“So all over Northland significant communities will continue to suffer from a lack of police resources,” says Mr Peters.
