Leader's LetterFebruary 2002Doug Woolerton: PresidentThis year everything we do and everything we think must be prefaced by the words ELECTION YEAR. Team work is the name of the game and a concentrated effort this year by us all, MPs and volunteers alike, will be rewarded by a great result come election year. Our list or party vote is all important so spread the word at every opportunity, of course we want both votes but if there has to be a choice it is the party vote for New Zealand First that is the critical vote. Our Leader the Rt Hon Winston Peters and his Parliamentary Team have some exciting themes and strategies worked out that will enthuse you and attract a wide following generally. During the first half of February we selected candidates in Hunua, Rodney and Karapiro they are Brent Catchpole, Craig McNair and Gordon Stewart. This process will continue over the next four months resulting in a solid team of quality candidates. As party members and supporters we ask you to support our candidates as they go about their all important campaigns. The candidates and the MPs are to be our front people but it is the party machine with an army of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers that is even more critical. Delivering the pamphlets, arranging meetings in private homes and local halls, putting up signs and above all speaking well of New Zealand First is every bit as important to success. Ask your friends and relations to help even if it is only for this year. Make it fun and interesting by giving them clear cut and specific tasks to do that have both a start and finishing point. Even a week’s work can be a huge help. I am excited and confident about this year’s election because political events are working in our favour to a degree not seen for many years. Combine this with the enthusiasm always displayed by you for New Zealand First in election years and we have the winning combination that brings home the bacon.
