President’s Report - Convention 2006

The overwhelming feedback from delegates at this year’s Convention indicated a sense of optimism for the future of New Zealand First and enthusiasm for getting things done in the present political environment.

The Convention was held at the Bruce Mason Centre, Takapuna from 14-15 October 2006 with the theme "New Zealand First is Working for You".

From the welcome to North Shore City by Mayor George Wood to the wide ranging and dynamic speech by Rt Hon Winston Peters, delegates were treated to an interesting smorgasbord of political debate, presentations, remit discussions and good fellowship. Highlights included the presentation by John Cowan from Parents Inc entitled "Fixing NZ from the Kids Up". There was also enthusiastic support for the workshops on Sunday morning which focused on fundraising, membership, and raising political capital.

Delegates greatly enjoyed the opportunity to interact with our seven MPs. Deputy Leader Peter Brown presented an entertaining speech on Saturday afternoon and the Hon Brian Donnelly chaired the lively MPs’ panel on Sunday morning.
