National's Promised Highways, Bridges Coming To Nothing
National’s much promised super highway from Warkworth to Wellsford continues to remain a figment of the government’s imagination, says New Zealand First Leader and Northland Member of Parliament Rt Hon Winston Peters.
“National promised a super highway from Puhoi to Warkworth as along ago as 2008 – nothing has happened. In March 2015 they promised a Warkworth-Wellsford super highway and again not a metre has been built.
“Now, NZTA has announced the section of the Warkworth-Wellsford road through Dome Valley will be widened and safety barriers installed but this is not going to happen until next year.
“It looks as though the promised super highway has been pigeon-holed permanently while NZTA just tinkers with the existing road.
“Also, what happened to the 10 two-lane bridges National promised for Northland in 2015? Again, no work has started on them.
“All Northland gets out of National are promises and no action,” says Mr Peters.
