Barbara Stewart entered Parliament as a New Zealand First list member in 2002, having had a very successful career in teaching, business, management and personnel training.

Barbara holds a postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies from the University of Waikato, a Bachelor of Education and a Diploma in Teaching. She brings to politics a wide range of experience in community issues including school governance and political party involvement.

Barbara and her husband Gordon live near Cambridge with their son.

She lists gardening and reading as activities she enjoys when leisure time is available.
